My Broccoli Plants are showing their heads =) Garden Update 7/8/14

It’s been a few weeks since I have had a garden update so thought it was time to post one. =) I am very happy with the outcome this year so far. I’ve always wanted to have a vegetable garden so when I bought my first home 8 years ago and had some land to plant on I decided to learn as much as I could and planted my first garden. Unfortunately it did not work out too well the first time around. I always thought it was pretty simple but year after year I have learned more and more.

This past Mother’s Day our family built a raised garden bed which is way bigger then the one I had been using. It was a lot of work but so worth it. Some veggies I started by seed indoors, others were sowed directly and some I bought from Bonnie plants and transplanted them to my garden.

So far we have been able to pick plenty of Lettuce and Green Onions. Last night I picked my first batch of Swiss chard and Spinach. I wish the Cherry Tomatoes would hurry up so I can put those in my salad as well. 😉

I cannot believe how big the Broccoli and Cabbage plants are getting! I peeked at the Broccoli plants and found their little heads were showing lol. I can’t wait until they are bigger. Something new I had never planted before is Pumpkin so I’m hoping that goes well so the kids can have their own to decorate this year.

What kind of veggies do you grow in your garden or love to eat in the summer time?

Thanks for stopping by! =)

I am growing broccoli, bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots in Earthboxes. So far the cukes and broc have produced!

  • Chaotic Kristy

We always grow tomato plants, because we love tomatoes and some how no matter what we do it’s hard to kill a tomato plant. I don’t have a green thumb.

I’m glad you posted a pic of the broccoli heads. My daughter loves broccoli and maybe now that I’ve seen it done, and what to expect, next year I’ll grow it.

Not everyone has a green thumb. You have a gift. You and your family can have all those fresh greens almost everyday.

Your garden looks great! I am trying to talk my husband into the raised beds. I think they looks so much better. We just a few things out this year trying to see what does good and what doesn’t in our new climate. We have a potato plant that is as big as a person! Can’t wait to see what comes out of that one!

  • Mary Ann

Your garden looks great! I really wanted to have one this year, but didn’t get my act together with the long winter and by the time I could have started, didn’t know where to begin. I want to make a plan this year so I can be ready next year!
