DIY Weight Loss Tracker

DIY-WEIGHTLOSS-TRACKER-JARS At the beginning of this year I decided it was time for a change. I’ve always struggled with my weight and I’m at my heaviest I have ever been in my life. I promised myself that I would not diet because those never seem to work but to make little changes as I go. I try to weigh in once a week and started thinking of making it more fun whether I lost that week or gained. Along came the idea for a DIY Weight Loss Tracker.

Supplies Needed:

  • 2 Glass Decorative Bowls
  • 1-2 packages of Alphabet Foam Stickers
  • Glass Gems/Rocks or Marbles
  • 2 Different Washi Tapes
  • Scissors


 1. Start out by getting your supplies ready. You will need the Washi tape, glass bowls and scissors for the first part.


 2. Decorate your bowls with the Washi tape. I used one pattern on each bowl to make them separate and unique.


 3. Get your Alphabet Foam Stickers and find the letters to write out the words LBS LOST and LBS TO DROP.

DIYWEIGHTLOSSTRACKER24. Peel off the backings to the foam stickers and on one glass bowl put “LBS LOST” and on the other put “LBS TO DROP.” I put LBS LOST on my glass bowl with the heart Washi tape on it because as I lose pounds I’m making my heart healthier.


5.  If you’re trying to lose weight then you probably have chosen a goal to work towards to or a weight that you want to be at. I have designated my glass rocks to equal 1 pound each. Once you figure out how many pounds you want to lose to get to your goal add the amount of rocks to your LBS TO DROP bowl.

Another great way track your progress when your on the go or if you love tech items is with fitness trackers. I currently have a fitbit and love it! It’s a great way to track my progress when I’m at the gym or out for a jog and need to keep an eye on my pulse. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what fitness tracker is the best or the right pick for you so here is a helpful list of the top 10 fitness trackers.

I have lost 9lbs so far this year so I have added 9 rocks to my LBS LOST bowl. I still have a lot of weight to lose so I have a lot of rocks in my LBS TO DROP bowl but I can’t wait to take them out each time I lose weight.

    This is such a clever idea for the weight loss journey. I should be doing this myself. I agree with you that ‘dieting’ doesn’t really work, it doesn’t work for me anyway. It will take a lifestyle change. I’m walking more now which is great! It’s a step in the right direction.

    Diets are never a good idea. It’s best to change your lifestyle by eating smaller portions and regular exercise. The tricky part is making it a permanent lifestyle change. Whatever motivates you in keeping track of your weight and health is always a good idea.

    I did this in early 2000s when I was doing Weight Watchers. It was nice to be able to have a visualization on my desk so I wasnt tempted to eat the snacks people would bring in to share.

    Great job making a visual to help you keep track! Don’t forget that if you are doing any kind of exercise that muscle weighs more than fat, so while you are ready to drop the pounds, there may be some fluctuating in there as you get stronger… and that’s ok too! Another cool thing to add to these would be some water and a beta fish! I always loved having a beta fish in a glade jar and if you add a plant at the top, they feed off of it while “breathing” fresh water/ air… you get the gist ha! Keep it up!

    This seems so simple! It is almost like a homemade piggy bank that reminds you when you need to put your money in it, except it reminds you of the weight you need to lose! That’s a great way to be sure to track your weight loss without having to buy expensive kits!
