“WEMAKE7 was provided a gift card from Stonyfield to help with this “pay it forward” post. All opinions are our own.”
The holiday season is here and for most it is a time of celebration and happiness. Unfortunately for others though this time of year can be stressful and can even bring on depression. Just recently I had an amazing opportunity to be able to help pay it forward and give back to our community.
See the truth is, our family is one that isn’t very fortunate and we receive help especially during the holidays. We try to not let it get us down though and even though we can’t help others to a great extent we do our very best as a family to give back and pay it forward in any ways we can.
This year with the help of Stonyfield we have been having fun doing charitable acts around our town. Last month during one of our trips to Salvation Army (they provide produce for free during the week) we had noticed a flyer looking for volunteers to ring bells for the holiday season. Knowing that Salvation Army is an organization that helps us a lot during the holidays for gifts for the kiddos we wanted to give back by volunteering our time ringing bells. My husband and I have been doing that for a few days so far and love it. He actually dresses up as Santa and we play Christmas music while we ring bells. It really has been a great experience meeting wonderful people and volunteering for a good cause.
Another way we have given back this year is by donating a few things to the weekend backpack program at my daughter’s school that we are a part of. The weekend back pack program provides students (families that sign up) a bag of food for the weekend and sometimes there is even a surprise inside like a coloring book.
My younger kiddos had fun shopping and we picked out some winter hats and my daughter wanted to get some cool cups with straws to surprise kids with in their bags. I found a couple of cool backpacks for super cheap at .50 cents a piece and donated those as well.
Another way we have helped others this year was by donating a bunch of personal care products. I love to coupon and a lot of times I am able to score free products to donate that we don’t use ourselves. I wanted to find the right place to donate them all and my husband had the idea of donating them to a homeless shelter that helped him when he was down on his luck almost 18 years ago. I know when he dropped those items off it made him feel really good that he was able to give back to a place that helped him so much.
My daughter didn’t want to forget furry friends that need our help too. There is an animal shelter that she went to with her girl scouts a few months ago and she really wanted to buy the dogs and cats there some food. We found some really great deals, I used some coupons and we were able to donate some dry and wet dog and cat food and also some treats. The animal shelter was happy to receive and let us take a picture on their bench inside. After donating we visited the animals for a little while. 😉
This has been a really great experience for our family and we have had so much fun and it feels so good to give back.
Have you ever donated or helped someone in need? Tell me in the comments below. 😉
