What a beautiful time of year it is! The leaves are changing, it’s cooler but still warm enough to enjoy the outdoors. It’s also the perfect time to go apple picking with loved ones and bring home tons of apples.
When our family goes apple picking we bring home a lot. It may be because we are a family of seven so when everyone starts picking them the bags get really full! 😉 There is so much you can do with apples and today I’m sharing with you a very simple recipe for Apple Butter and it tastes soo good!
What you will need:
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 14 apples
- 3 pint-sized jars
Start out by rinsing off apples in cold water. Drain then peel apples. Remove cores and then cut apples into quarters.
In a large saucepan add your water and apple slices. Cook on medium high heat until the apples become softer. Transfer softened apples into a blender and puree. Return apples back to saucepan and add sugar and cinnamon, stirring until dissolved. Bring mixture to a boil at medium high heat while stirring frequently. Shut off burner when mixture has thickened.
Prepare your jars for canning. Fill hot jars with apple mixture making sure to leave 1/2 inch head space, remove bubbles and cover with lid and band. Start water in large stock pot or canner for water bath and gently add your jars to the water making sure they are covered. After water has reached a rolling boil let process for 10 minutes. Turn off heat, let sit for 10 minutes, remove and let cool for at least 12 -18 hours.
