I couldn’t believe what my husband found..

chickens, hens, eggs, animalsSo it finally happened! A few days ago my husband came in to where I was at and said you have got to come see this. At first I didn’t want to go because I actually thought I was going to find something or see something I didn’t want to. He wanted me to come check out what he found with our chickens and knowing in the past we have lost some of our hens to raccoons I was hesitant and made my way there slowly.

When I finally got to them I couldn’t believe my eyes. They left us 3 eggs. =) Why was I surprised? We had got our hens at 1 day old last Spring and they had never laid any eggs until this moment. I really thought they would have laid them by now so I was really excited to see their first eggs.

The cool thing about it was it was Christmas Eve so it was like their gift to us.

Until next time… Have a beautiful day. =)

That is so awesome. Can’t remember the last time I saw this happening. My mom grew up near a farm so this was like an everyday experience but now it isn’t since I moved to the city.

That is great! I have one friend that cannot find where her chickens are laying (if at all!)

  • Marielle Altenor

There is nothing more exciting that the first sign of food provided to you by your animals. It really is an amazing gift! Enjoy!

What a great Christmas gift for you. Why did it take so long to start laying the eggs? I have always wanted to have a chicken coup.

  • Maggie Branch

Congratulations on your chickens laying eggs! This is super exciting. I love farm fresh eggs!

  • Melissa

That is fantastic! IT would be great to have fresh eggs although I know they must be a lot of work to take care of and the wait makes me think of the episode of I love Lucy where they raised chickens. It took them longer than expected as well.

  • Claudia Krusch

How exciting! I would love to have fresh eggs! I hope they lay more for you guys!!!

  • Brittany Bly

Fresh eggs are the best! My grandma had lots of hens when my siblings and I were growing up. We had fresh eggs every morning.

How exciting!! My kids have been begging to get some chickens but I have been hesitant because they seem like a lot of work to care for. This is pretty awesome though and I know they would love it if we had hens that laid eggs!

  • Rebecca Swenor

Congrats to you and the hens for their first eggs laid. I do believe this was an amazing gift for your hens to lay eggs Christmas Eve. It is a great way to get fresh eggs when you have your own hens

  • April Mims

That’s so exciting! I would love to be able to have a chicken and always have fresh eggs available.

I love eggs! Fresh eggs are awesome and taste better! Wish I could have a small farm in my backyard

This is a pleasant surprise! It’s quite exhilarating to find chickens laying eggs. I hope we also have live chickens.

  • Liz Mays

What a nice Christmas surprise! I’d be pretty excited too. I bet there will be many more to come.

Wow – I am surprised it took so long for them to lay. My chicks were shipped to me and I got them by the time they were 3 days old (I think). I got them in early March and by the end of June a few had already started laying eggs. By the end of summer, all 6 of my chickens were laying. I found that Golden Comets are the best.

It takes quite awhile for hens to begin to lay eggs. They need to be almost a year old. What a treat you nowhave

  • Megan Elford

Aww, what a great Christmas gift! Will you keep the eggs for yourself or sell them? My brother and SIL raise chickens, and actually just lost several to what they think was a ferret — who knew?! They keep their eating eggs, but also have a rooster so they have a supply of chicks too.

  • Jeanette

I bet there is nothing like fresh eggs! We’re not allowed to have them where I live, but I would love to have some fresh eggs!

  • Cara (@StylishGeek)

Honestly Bonnie if I owned chickens and I saw that they hatched an egg for us I would be completely ecstatic! It’s just a freaky excitement on seeing how nature is! That is awesome they left you guys with 3 eggs and to capture that moment in this blog post! Now…how to cook them? Hehe!

  • Robin (Masshole Mommy)

How exciting that must have been! I hope they lay lots more for you guys now that they have started.

  • WEMAKE7
