Does your kiddo like playing games or watching YouTube kids? All 5 of my kiddos enjoy playing games on their tablets and my youngest 2 have recently got into watching funny kids videos on YouTube. Just recently I learned of the SmartStick 2 and was excited to receive it for review.
The SmartStick 2 includes an instruction insert, wireless remote, power cord, power adapter, HDMI adapter and SmartStick.
What is a SmartStick?
The SmartStick is a tiny plug-and-play device that allows you to stream over a million Android and XBMC apps and personal media from your smartphone, tablet, or computer to your TV. Whether you’re building a Smart Home or just want to stream Netflix, Smart Stick makes it easy. Smart Stick supports well over 1 million apps and channels–more apps and channels than any other Smart TV, Box, or Streaming device on the market. Designed to be simple from the start, it plugs neatly into your TV’s HDMI port. Send your personal media files directly from your phone or tablet seamlessly to your TV with no separate apps to install to access to your favorite streaming services like Netflix, Pandora, HBO Go, Hulu, and more. Dual band wireless gives you an optimal wireless connection for high definition channel and app streaming, and Bluetooth lets you connect your Bluetooth headphones, speakers, or countless other Bluetooth smart devices.
Plugging in the SmartStick was pretty easy for my husband. Before we could get anything to work we had to set the time and date and update the Google Play Services. This device does have its ups and downs. Although it was easy to set up we couldn’t get any games to work. We downloaded a few and some wouldn’t install all the way and others wouldn’t let you play at all. In turn we would have to unplug the device which then restarted the date and time and we would have to go through that all over again.
We have been able to install Netflix and YouTube kids which is great because we have a Netflix account. The kids really enjoy the YouTube kids and have been watching their favorite funny kids videos. I have found that the mouse is a little touchy and sometimes hard for my younger kids to get work.
My husband does like the fact that he can plug the USB adapter into his laptop and use the wireless remote to change his slides when giving a presentation. I also like that you can put a parental lock on it as well.
