Vehicle Safety Tips when Traveling with Children

It seems like our family is always on the road! Just this past week I have realized I am now “moms taxi”. My kids are always being driven somewhere whether it is to work, friends or Girl Scouts. We are definitely on the road daily! Being on the road though brings risks of accidents so I always make sure to keep us safe as I can. To do that, vehicle safety is a must!

Vehicle Safety Tips:

Checking For Recalls

This is something I had never thought about before until I received a notice in the mail one time regarding a recall on a part of one of our vehicles. From that point on I check often because you can’t trust that you will get a notice telling you that information. You can find out if your vehicle has a recall online at cars.com.

Need Repairs? Fix Them!

Vehicle repair can get costly, trust me I know! There are some things I’m assuming you can let slide for a little while. If you happen to have repairs that if they don’t get fixed right away and can cause an accident it’s just not worth waiting, get them fixed!

Check your Tires!

Tires are often overlooked and I have to admit I’m guilty of not doing this one when we are heading out for the day. Be sure to check tire pressure and inflate if necessary. Checking the tread is also important. Another important part of tires is making sure you have a spare tire available.

Car Seats and Installation

Finding the right car seat for your children is so important. There are so many different types of car seats on the market today and depending on the age and size of your child they need to be used a certain way. I have found it overwhelming at times wondering if I have installed our car seats correctly. Cars.com has some really great information on car seat safety checks, you should check it out.

Wear your Seat belt!

If you expect your child to wear their seat belt why shouldn’t you wear yours? So buckle up and set a good example. Not to mention it could end up saving your life!

I definitely need to check my tires more often and check the tire pressure. I remember about car seats for the kids. It’s so important to make sure you get good ones. I know my daughter will be happy when she can finally get in the front seat.
